Reflexology

Reflexology is a natural therapeutic, non-invasive, touch therapy that assists the body to heal itself.

It consists of alternating degrees of thumb and finger pressure techniques to reflex points on the feet, hands, face and ears. These reflex points correspond to all our bodily systems.

Reflexology facilitates deep relaxation, reconnecting and calming nerve pathways in the central nervous system, thereby supporting the prevention of illness, maintenance of good health and wellness. It encourages body balance and our body’s natural innate healing.

Throughout the body there are trillions of cells, each with their own unique intelligence. All of these cells in the body are in communication with each other throughout the fascia and all bodily systems.

Stressors like emotional and physical accidents or surgery trauma can create scars, lesions, cysts or blockages in the connective tissue anywhere in the body. These wounds create a disruption along nerve pathways and the body must adapt for its optimal health and survival.

A qualified, experienced and trained reflexologist knows how to work the 7,200 nerves in each foot to reduce any stressors or pain they find in the foot and relate it back to the body to bring the body back to natural health.

Reflexology is a therapy that is approximately 5,000 years old and is believed to have been developed in China. Evidence of ancient and more modern forms of reflexology is found all around the world and today it is practiced widely around the world. It is growing in popularity in Australia and in Northern Europe it has been identified with reducing absenteeism in the workplace.

Reflexology theory is that a reflexologist can apply specific, adjusted pressure and stimulus techniques to the individual’s reflex points in the hands, feet, head and ears. Applying pressure to these reflex areas may affect the organs and body systems and the touch sends energy flowing through the body bringing balance and deep relaxation which allows the body to heal.

The benefits of Reflexology

  • Stress reduction – induces a deep state of relaxation
  • Immune system improvement – reduces effects of autoimmune diseases
  • Speeds up recovery – relieves pain following accidents or surgery
  • Stimulates nerve endings – increases energy
  • Improves circulation – raises or lowers blood pressure and assists uptake of energy
  • Eliminates body toxins – helps to drain the lymphatic system
  • Balances the hormones – improves the function of reproductive organs
  • Assists recovery – following chemotherapy and other cancer treatments
  • Improves metabolism – reduces sluggishness and increases energy
  • Balances the body – tunes up all body systems
  • Works well with other forms of medicine or therapies

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is an ancient holistic treatment based on the ancient Ayurveda healing system. It has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. Originally, it was used to improve hair and scalp conditions by focusing the massage on the head, neck, and shoulders. Using acupressure massage, it aims to rebalance the natural energy of the body.

This type of manual therapy uses firm but gentle, rhythmic movements on the areas being massaged that involve acupressure points called Marma points. Traditionally, Ayurvedic oils were used in this massage. However the use of oils has become optional.

Indian head massage incorporates various manipulation and acupressure techniques to stimulate the soft tissues on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp, head and face. Effleurage or circular massage strokes are used on the scalp, while kneading and stretching techniques are used on the neck and shoulders to release tension and increase muscle flexibility.

Aside from its physical benefits, this type of massage also helps on an emotional level such as calming the mind, promoting relaxation, and relieving stress.

The benefits of Indian Head Massage

Massaging the head helps improve oxygen supply to the brain which can help reduce stress. Oxygen is important as it helps you think more clearly and creatively. Indian head massage helps stimulate the hair follicles to loosen them up when the scalp is tense and tightened.

This encourages healthy hair growth and promotes strong, shiny hair. Additionally, massaging the scalp, face, neck and shoulders offers the following benefits:

  • Relieves eye strain
  • Alleviates insomnia
  • Eases headaches and migraines
  • Relaxes the muscles
  • Tones facial muscles
  • Improves blood and lymphatic circulation
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Restores joint movement
  • Relieves sinusitis
  • Reduces stress
  • Relieves anxiety
  • Improves concentration
  • Eliminates muscle tension
